Research Theme: Cognition, Emotion, and Time

The theme centers on the transmission, acquisition and representation of social and cultural knowledge with a view to explore various types of human collective behaviour and intersubjective understanding.

Shared cultural knowledge and ideas are socially distributed which implies different ways of knowing and different ways of acquiring knowledge among the members of any given social group.  Emotion and time are likewise essential to the way humans generate, reproduce and live culturally shared ideas and values.

Thus acknowledging the importance of social and cultural diversity and individual variability, researchers engage with the general theme through the study of notions of development:

  • Youth
  • Uses and transmission of memory and history
  • Planning for the future
  • Decision-making
  • Perceptions and experiences of time
  • Synchronization and joint action
  • Memory storage
