Bachelor and Master's programs combine standard courses with extensive options in relation to thematic and regional specializations. At the bachelor level, the main emphasis is on establishing a broad and solid base for further studies in anthropology or related disciplines. The master's program focused on immersion and specialization, without neglecting more general academic skills. After the first semester of the Master's programme there is a high degree of individual guidance.
Anthropology is an education which combines scientific traditions of the humanities and social sciences. While studying you will engage yourself with the world's cultures and societies. You work in a comparative perspective and seek an understanding of the human condition and their flux, through studies of social and cultural issues. Anthropology is about how we as humans understand ourselves and how we interact with and understand other people and our environment. It has core competencies in a world that is continuosly becoming increasingly complex and globalized.
In Anthropology you will concern yourself with theories and methodological tools for understanding the world's societies and cultures. Your study can for example take place among young Muslims in Zanzibar, a Danish company or a hospital, at UNESCO in Paris or among ethnic minorities in Thailand. Your studies can take place anywhere in any social or cultural context.
Anthropology's primary working method is fieldwork. You strive to live with the people you are studying. When you participate in a community or other people's social lives, it is called participant observation. Through observation and participation, you are trying to understand their world view. Fieldwork is not the only way to study a social or cultural phenomenon, though. You can also use historical sources, base your analysis on others' records and further develop their theories about for instance establishing communities and societies.
